Remembering NDP
National Day is just a week away and I actually had friends who downloaded National Day theme songs into their iPods! So mad patriotic! I am wow-ed.
For me, out of the dozens of National Day songs, I always prefer the vintage ones. The older the better they say.
The list of songs goes as follows:
★1985: Stand Up For Singapore <--A #1 hit in radios islandwide!
★ 1986: Count On Me Singapore - Clement Chow
★ 1987 & 1988: We Are Singapore <-- Is this the "pledge" song?
★ 1990: One People, One Nation, One Singapore
★ 1998: Home - Kit Chan
★ 1999: Together - Evelyn Tan & Dreamz FM
★ 2000: Shine on Me - Jai, - Mavis Hee
★ 2001: Where I Belong - Tanya Chua <-- Mad Emo song,makes me weep
★ 2002: We Will Get There - Stefanie Sun
★ 2003: One United People - Stefanie Sun
★ 2004: Home - Kit Chan (陈洁仪) and JJ Lin (The MTV versions were choral renditions performed by Young Voices, which comprises of the Choirs from the Tanjong Katong Girls' School and Tampines Primary School.)
★ 2005: Reach Out For The Skies - Taufik Batisah and Rui En, - Rui En <--Love the dance moves for this!
★ 2006: My Island Home - Kaira Gong
★ 2007: There's No Place I'd Rather Be - Kit Chan
★2008: Shine for Singapore - Hady Mirza, - Joi Chua
★2009: What Do You See - Electrico, - Kelvin Tan

And there are always crazy dance moves to accompany these songs. And you do realize that the vintage songs are rather "cracky" due to it being dubbed and redubbed for godknowshowmanytimes. So annoying - the cracking i mean.
You know, if your parents only have 2 tickets, but the whole family of 5 wants to go for the Parade, consider smuggling in the other 3 because from experience, the guard on duty will "close one eye" lah. :)
Anyway, I remembered fondly my first time ever participating in NDP, with my school band.
Free food (we had KFC every week! Pizzahut only twice)
Free rides (in SBS buses which was chartered for the Band)
2 army guys to keep us hydrated (with ice cold water for every practice)
Tickets for all the band members!
Wow.

Ah, I kind of miss being in the NDP scene.
Booooos.
