Grandma's - Macam nice only
Z & I was frantically looking for a decent place to dine after our double date with our buddies was cancelled. Ms Smarty-Pants i.e yours truly, suggested Laksania @ NEX. But upon trotting our way there, we found the restaurant (ala Kopitiam!!!) looking rather miserable and fled from the half-past-dead-looking place to look for a better alternative to seal our Saturday date... and look where we landed our mouths (wooh absurd!) at:
Well I will say they serve local food, but I'm not sure if local meant SINGAPORE local or otherwise, because their menu looks like something like that of a Baba-Nonya style and what interests me was that they serve Ipoh white coffee , so I am sure this is not the true Singaporean local style. Nevertheless, our food expedition continues... with.....
1. Curry Laksa
When I think of Curry, I think of spicy mamak curry. Well this, is anything but that. It tastes something like that of Thai Express' but only with a much more creamier and thicker gravy. It reminds me so much of my dad's laksa. Generally O.K but not something that is headbanging-ly good.
2. Fish Head Curry
Lol, it is the same gravy as my Curry Laksa. The fish head is soft, but I have no idea what a fish head should taste like since it's my virgin experience eating it! But Z helped to dissect the boneless parts, which tasted OK, but I tasted more of the fish than that of the curry. So I have no idea how this is their centre piece dish when it tasted like 3 different things : Fish head + laksa gravy and a jungle of vege with tau poks AND NOT an explosion of flavours. I speak like a pro, no?
BUT Z loves it:
The giant pot of fish head comes with this..what do we call this...a burner?
3. Potato leaves dish
The tastiest dish of the 3. Lol, a pity that I was actually eating this with curry laksa.
Actually we were wowed by the rest of the dishes on the menu but would definitely give this place another shot if time permits. But till then, I will still wait for my Sayang to bring me to a TRUE, LOCAL & AUTHENTIC FISH HEAD CURRY located at JALAN KAYU.
So I asked the chef himself what he thinks of le place....
He said he is camera shy and prefer to keep comments to himself. Why so shy!
On a side note, I am reviving my blog! I am such a survivor. Good night!
