Beyonce Learns About English In Singapore

According to Flying Dutchman and Glenn Ong from Morning Express, BEYONCE (my dear dear Beyonce) mocked us Singaporeans for our pathetic english, in her F1 concert interview.

As quoted "...although Singaporeans don't speak good english, I am glad that they sang along with me..."

Oh my. That is really wicked I TELL YOU.

Firstly, look at this way, she might have accidentally bumped to Ms Ris Low and happily concluded that Singaporeans talk with their brains plastered on their knees. Generally, Singaporeans are horrible with their version of "English", but to be on the home grounds of Singapore as a visitor, I think Beyonce have nada rights to conclude how GOOD or BAD our FABULOUS English is.

You mean mean girl.

Truthfully, I do agree that YES, we don't speak Queen's English. Then again, who says we do!? Even the DJ's don't speak Queen's English; as long as you are understood, shouldn't that be good enough?

Truthfully, I have a humongous pet peeve for people (generally all!) who speaks English WEIRDLY. Of course I didn't admit that I am Miss Perfecto English Smarty Panties, but sure, if you want to speak English, on gods will, DO IT PROPERLY CANNN?

As I said, I am not born with an English-speaking tongue, but here are some of the ways that I used to keep myself abreast with the English language:

1) I listen to only English songs. Ok, I mean I only have strictly English songs in my iPod. This does not mean that you should ditch your Jay Zhous and Siti Nurhalizas. Just that as you listen to English songs, try to get hold of new words and their pronunciation. It really helps. English is all about the vocab baby!

2) Read newspapers. I've gotten plenty of training back in my secondary 4 and JC days where all my holiday assignments are on news reading. Straits Times is very wordy, so just pick out A section, usually I choose "Home".

3) Vocab book. So old school but yes, I actually HAD a pretty Happy House vocab book back in secondary 4. I take down phrases too.

4) Speak it out. Practice speaking English with your friends. I spoke very little Malay although ironically, I took higher Malay (a total waste of time, i concluded).

On a whole, the stream of media that you expose yourself too are very important. Books, magazines, posters et cetera, read as much as you can. I even read road signs and learn how to pronounce some of the English named roads.

Speaking of roads...

Why team Prancing Horse Alias Ferrari didn't win although they were blessed with a yunky (yummy and hunky) drrrrrrrrriver such as Kimi Raikkonen?! Why is it even called a Ferrari in first place when there are NO WINS for the team. Sigh. We should all buy Renault cars and ditch Ferraris.
