My Honest Review: SYF 2010 Outdoor Band Competition

COMPLIMENTARY HUGS TO EVERYONE! BOWEN MILITARY BAND was thrusted with a Gold With Honours!

I know I know, I think too much raving on Facebook makes you think wah haolian hor hor hor.

The results are:

If you are still scratching your head, yes! We are number 2 now, with Deyi owning the Best Display Band and Best Drum Major award for the 2nd consecutive year.

Long gone are the days where we had blue pleated skirts and shorts with knee high white stockings. (old school much?)

If you are looking for the school band with the nasty-looking (in a good way of course!) "songkok" (the uniform's head gear) then you should now spot for a Golden Trojan Helmet with bold red feather drapes.

Skirts and shorts aside people because now we have blue tailored pants to match Bowen Band's trademark colour - Bold Dark Red.

Seniors from the band, you might not like the new-marching-band-look, but trust me on 100% on this, the new uniform solves all wadrobe malfunctions that you can think of when you march, strut, spin and twirl with your weapons (noms, i mean instruments) when you are battling it out in the field (for perfomance!)

Other changes:

(1) DCI marching standards
(2) Colourguards
(3) Music solo

I remembered the days when I saw a Persis Overture score slotted between my music file and was wondering at that point of time, can the band really play such a well written score?

So, I rest my case! Of course we bloody can , what the hell!

via Youtube videos, I listen for the misintonations, the off-tempos and for off-beats to be played wrongly. But no, it's a well written piece of music that is well-played, by a 100 man band, for marching!

Perhaps in 2012, we have tonnes of props.

Then we can nom other bands and ha ha ha at them.

Ok that is so mean.

Well, it was a well deserved award for Deyi.

And it was another well deserived award for Bowen Band.

Hugs to everyone who came down on Saturday. (And me, who cabbed down in a Merc cab with a peak hour charge!)

On a side note, we should trademark our It's My Life score please. Other bands are playing it "wrong".

Everyone says this, but I am so gonna say this again...

We won TK! But, despite all these, Band,love your competitors because THEY made you work harder. And if you think you are good, there are always others who are better. Be humbly humbled by this small achievement.
