Dilution of the Singapura spirit in youth
(source)
Tricky. I can imagine GCK, sweating profusely in front of glaring NTU undergraduates who thrust their fists in the air with every opportunity to ask strings of questions.
Truthfully, for my case, I have always tried to broaden my opportunities by looking beyond Singapore (Australia for instance). I worry, and worry, about the chances of me securing a well-paying job upon graduation, considering the plethora factors including the employability rate in Singapore.
Look at this. If majorities (Chinese) are being particularly worried about securing a job after their graduation, consider the panic and anxiety among us minorities -malays, indians, eurasions, sikhs, persians etc etc!
'Dilution of the Singapore spirit in youth'
Singaporean youths are facing the 'social' meltdown. You don't see kids playing catch at void decks. You don't see kids come together for meals at nasty fast food joints after their CCAs. You don't see these kids 'coagulate' anymore! They are becoming selfless individuals. Do they even care about their friends' wellbeing? The more educated we are, the more we speak, but the lesser we care, the lesser we share. Is there a remedy? Absolutely not. Not now atleast, with academia-centric parents who are dying to see their kids dash up the stairs of success, it tunes these kids to think that all that SHOULD be bothering them throughout their whole life are books and studying, dance class and tuition, PS3 and the computer.
Sidetrack: Which brings to light... yesterday, was the first time in my life, I saw a 10 year old boy, with an iPhone. It is really his. The entire family has 1 each. SICK.
I don't know what I am doing in Singapore other than trying to best to work hard and get a degree ASAP not because I'm a gan chiong queen but I worry about the teeming number of foreigners who are going to nab my job spots away AND hence back firing on my career.
Degreed, but joblesss. HOW PATHETIC IKR! Hopefully this doesn't happen to me dear god!
Maybe the issue here is to decrease foreign talents becaue while others might see it as building up healthy competiiton level among soon-to-be-working adults, it creates unwelcomed social stress and SOCIAL TRUTH that Singaporeans loathe foreginers more than they hate their neighbour's barking dog. Because of...too many reasons to tell, but that definitely includes their HYGIENE and bleah language proficiency.
We are not bickering over who should get what job per se. We want priority to be given to Singaporeans and not imported talents. Yes or no? Agree of disagree? What is so 'Singapore' if Singaporeans are treated like second class citizens hur? Touch your heart and ask.
