Doctor, come Pap Smear me!

Doctor, come PAP SMEAR ME!

This sentence, sounds real crude, like I am asking some white-coat hunky doctor to come over here *wiggles index finger in his direction* to do something errr sexy to me.

But no. PAP SMEAR is not a sexy verb (word used to describe sexy action). And neither it is a play thing.

Let's get serious.

The first time I heard the word P-A-P  S-M-E-A-R I honestly and naively thought that it has something to do with your boobs. So I now realised I got it all mixed up as Pap Smear tests are NOT SIMILAR to 'testing' for Breast Cancer. Pui. I am so doinks.

Fact : A Pap smear is a way of examining CELLS collected from the cervix (the lower end of the womb)

But why you need to examine these cells? What for! So malu to do it! (So shy to do it)

The PURPOSE of the Pap smear is to help detect abnormal cervical cells even before they develop into cancer

Yes finally, we are talking about the capital C here. Cancer. I know most of us blatantly ignore any advertisements that got to do with Cervical Cancer. We live our days thinking, "No, I won't be so suay right? Get such Cer-vi-cal Cancer! Choy choy choy!"

And if you can spare the embarrassment when you do bikini wax/Brazilian wax/American wax/french wax, pap smear will be many time less embarrassing (and painless...)

So, I am 21 years old, freaking healthy, jogs on a day-to-day basis, eats fresh food all the time. Am I sparred from this cervical cancer?

Ah moy,the answer is no, no and...NO!

Read this!!!!

All women are at risk of getting cervical cancer. A woman’s risk increases if she:

  •  has ever had sex and/or is sexually active
  •  smokes
  •  has had several sexual partners
  •  has had sexually transmitted infections like genital warts or genital herpes

So, if you are a WOMAN/18 year old girl/ 30+ working lady/ 48 year old stay at home mum/ hot female model/ Miss Universe 2010,2009,2008 etc etc, YOU have equal chances of getting cervical cancer! I can hear gaspssss.

But I really think this is not necessary.

Say that again? Girls, if you care about something soooo trivial like getting your hair tangled in the wind, then you SHOULD care about something more serious like taking care of yourself and your health. Girls, we whine to our boyfriends about how fat we look in those pair of jeans. We dance in front of the mirrors with camera in our hands to capture the cheesiest shots. We care about these trivial things in life, but why not cervical cancer? Get pap smeared today ok? xoxo

Guys, you love your girlfriends don't you? You like the way how they dress up for dates and the way they slant their heads across your shoulder. Husbands, don't you enjoy the mornings when your wives plant a kiss of your nose. How amazing she looks after shower? You won't want to miss all these. Better still, who will take care of the kids IF she's longer around!? Think think think! Remind her about pap smear!

Oh my godness heavens. I am getting dizzy. Where can I go to do my Pap Smear? When?!

You are advised to do REGULAR Pap Smear because cervical cancer shows no mercy AND has no early symptoms. In Singapore cervical cancer takes the life of 1 woman every 5 days. (source)

You can find the doctor nearest to you here. Call them up and ask to squeeze in for a checkup.

Gee, you are an awesome blogger, thanks for the info.

I know! But before you run off, take a minute to PLEDGE or more like PROMISE me :
